2024-25 Chapter Year Elected Officer Slate

Greetings,

As Chair of the Nominations and Elections Committee, I’d like to thank Scott Lindstrom and Suzanne LePage for their insight as we collected candidate interest and prepared to present this officer slate to you. Next year’s board has a strong mix of seasoned chapter officers and new names bringing excitement and fresh ideas. 2023-24 Chapter President Benjamin Bojda will automatically serve as Immediate Past President to guide this board in continuing our tradition of excellence in creating member value.

We are coordinating with ASSP Chapter Services to ensure we can run an e-ballot on our desired date, and will announce that date as soon as we have confirmation. From publication today, members will have at least 30 days to review the slate and ask questions. Please review the slate below, and the Committee will be glad to address any questions you have. (Use the site’s Contact Form to get in touch.)

Yours in Safety,

Russell Duren

  • President – Carlton “C.J.” Myers
    • I am a Graduate Safety Professional (GSP) holding management and senior level Safety, Risk, & Security roles in the Entertainment and Tourism sectors for over 15 years. My current role is Senior Director of Safety & Risk at Allegiant Stadium, home of the Las Vegas Raiders NFL team. Experience includes creating comprehensive safety management systems and safe experiences for some of the most prominent live events in the world, with over 37 different US venues, and events ranging from major prime-time award shows (Billboard Awards, CMAs, I-Heart Radio, etc.), National Football League, NBA Basketball, NHL Hockey, MLS Soccer, as well as Boxing & UFC super fights. In addition, I am a founding board member for Safety Allies Leadership Forum, founding member of the Las Vegas Emergency Managers Committee, and the current Vice President & member of Communications Committee for the Southern Nevada ASSP chapter.
    • If elected as president, I intend to continue building upon the strong foundations instilled by the current president Ben Bojda and immediate past president Russell Duren to continue fostering the best environment and chapter value we can give to all current and future safety professionals in the Southern Nevada region, as well as advocating for broader professional safety roles in all industries.
  • Vice President – Reed Whipple
    • While working on my degree in Welding Technology, safety went from something that I was forced to do, to something I actively cared about. I learned about the hazards of acetylene, electricity, heat, respiratory protection, and sharp objects. Choosing the PPE that fits properly and could protect me against hazards became especially important. Then I started working at a manufacturing facility and fabrication shop as the safety coordinator. This allowed me to take responsibility for the safety of everyone in the workplace and taught me about the hazards of machinery, LOTO, and forklifts. This was also a good opportunity for me to create and update the safety programs and form and run their safety committee. Now I work for the Nevada Safety Consultation and Training Section which is the consultation side of the state OSHA. Here I am always learning new things from the constant training, and I get to experience and help all sorts of businesses in various industries to improve safety and health in their workplaces. For me, there isn’t anything better than being a safety professional. I’ve been a member of ASSP for almost two years now and have been an active member of the Programming Committee for half of that.
    • I have two goals for what I would like to focus on as Vice President outside of my normal duties to support the President and the chapter. They are to improve awareness of OSHA Consultation and ensure that we continue to offer meaningful training and networking opportunities to members. To help improve awareness of OSHA consultation, I will spread awareness of the services they offer to safety professionals and businesses. I will also help motivate businesses to achieve SHARP or VPP status. I have learned a lot from ASSP training and want to make sure that members are able to learn and grow as safety professionals by ensuring that we continue to offer relative and informational training to members. Many members are credentialed and by continuing to get our training approved for CEUs will help credentialed members to renew their credentials. Networking opportunities allow members to meet new people, discuss safety and health related subjects with likeminded people, and offer a time for recreation.
  • Secretary – Robert “Bobby” Albright
    • Hello esteemed members of ASSP, My name is Bobby Albright, and I’m currently the Training Supervisor-Safety, for the state of Nevada. I have worked in safety and health for the state for 4-1/2 years designing training, delivering training, consulting, and supporting employers in any way I can build a strong safety culture. I currently hold the following credentials: ASP, CIT, ASHM, NSHP (state of Nevada). I serve on the board for Safety Allies, which is a safety forum and networking group within the Las Vegas Valley with several of our largest organizations in the Las Vegas Valley supporting one another in safety and health. I bring 24 years of safety experience in both Construction and General Industry and wake up every day loving what I do.
    • Strong communication is the foundation of safety and health. The Secretary position is about capturing that communication for the membership allowing it to function smoothly, tend to its business affairs effectively, and grow within our Las Vegas valley to support its members and through them, the organizations they work for. I bring the same passion I have for my role in safety with the state of Nevada to the membership and I look forward to being a servant leader for ASSP.
  • Treasurer – Kristi Repp
    • Hello, my name is Kristi Repp, and I am a CSP, currently working as the Safety Coordinator for the Las Vegas Metro Police Department.  I have been in the safety field for over 20 years, having worked in both private industry manufacturing safety and now local government.
    • I have been our Chapter’s Treasurer for the past four years, where I created an electronic based checkbook and reporting system that is easily reviewed by all chapter members.  I plan on retiring next year and am asking for your vote so that I may serve my last, working year, as your Treasurer.  Throughout my safety career I have enjoyed being involved in safety tasks from start to finish.  With this focus, my goal for the next term is to be instrumental in completing the new Education Fund we recently set up for our chapter members.   I look forward to being a part of the team that presents the first of many financial assistance checks to our chapter members as they work to gain valuable education and skills.
  • Member At Large (3 seats) – Brittany Brothers
    • I have worked for SDG&E for nearly 10 years. In 2016, I took over the Assistant Safety Coordinator role, and in 2023, I took over as Safety Coordinator. This is in addition to my regular role as the Supply Logistics Technician. Our site is part of the VPP, and I have helped out with two recertifications. I received my BS in Environmental Health and Safety from Oakland University in 2022. That same year I attained my Graduate Safety Practitioner designation from the BCSP. I plan to sit for my CSP exam later this year. I have also attained both the Safety and Health Specialist and the Professional Safety and Health Officer certifications from the University of San Diego Extended Studies OSHA Program.
    • I have been part of ASSP since 2019 when I joined as a student. I have previously served on our Southern Nevada ASSP board as the MAL in the 2022-2023 year and am currently in the role of Secretary for the 2023-2024 year. I began serving ASSP as part of the Membership Committee, which I am still an active participant in. I like the idea of being able to create member value in ASSP and help with planning fun tours and meet-ups so that we can all expand our social and professional networks with other safety professionals in other varied roles and career paths.
  • Member At Large (3 seats) – Carey Sedlacek
    • I serve as the Director of Environmental Health and Safety at the College of Southern Nevada. With over 15 years of diverse safety and environmental experience, I have served as an Environmental Science Officer in the U.S. Army and held civilian positions in healthcare, biotechnology manufacturing, and higher education. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Georgia State University, a Master of Science in Biology from the University of Nebraska, and a Master of Public Health from American Public University.
    • I am excited to continue serving as a member at large for the Southern Nevada Chapter. What excites me most about chapter service is the opportunity to facilitate networking among safety professionals across various disciplines and industries, leveraging diverse experiences and expertise to enhance our collective knowledge. I aim to foster camaraderie within our community through engaging and enjoyable activities that promote member interaction. As a public health professional, I am also interested in highlighting community health topics for our members, to enrich discussions and expand perspectives. My commitment lies in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where all members feel valued and supported.
  • Member At Large (3 seats) – Todd Schultz
    • I joined the State of Nevada, Safety Consultation and Training Section (SCATS) as a Safety Specialist in September 2004 and was appointed Chief Administrative Officer for SCATS in April 2013. I manage all aspects of the Nevada Consultation program at the three office locations in Las Vegas, Reno and Elko. I’m a graduate of Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health Management. I hold a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals, a Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM) designation from the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management (IHMM) and I am a Certified Public Manager CPM.
    • I would like to serve on the board in one of the member-at-large positions. I have served in this position for the last two years. Additionally, I have served on the programs committee to help schedule high quality programs for the monthly chapter meetings. I look forward to continuing to grow the ASSP Southern Nevada chapter and working with the board to bring valuable networking and chapter meeting content that helps safety professionals excel.
